action

So that Nirmala and her mother can pay the debts, Nirmala looks for a job. She finds it with Ranjeet, who is looking for a nurse for his blind mother. Everything seems to be going well for Nirmala: She has a job and is freshly in love with the young engineer Ashok Kapoor.

When Ashok has to travel for a while on business, disaster falls on Nirmala. The greasy Ranjeet has his eye on the good-hearted Nirmala. But since she does not bend to his sexual needs, he rapes her. Nirmala becomes pregnant, but the child does not survive.

Nirmala is devastated. After much deliberation, she manages to write a letter to Ashok about the events, although she is very afraid that if she loses her virginity, she will no longer be worthy of Ashok's love.

Believing Ashok had read the letter, the two married. On the wedding night they both received a breaking message from Bansi, Ashok's friend. In addition to Bansi's note, this letter also contains Nirmala's letter. Now she is confronted with Ashok's reaction to this letter, which does not mean a positive outlook for Nirmala. Ashok cannot reconcile this incident and leaves his newlywed bride that same night.

Nirmala, on her own again, finds an apartment and works as a nanny. Ranjeet is constantly lying in wait for her in her apartment and tries to win her over. One evening Ashok wants to beg his wife's forgiveness and knocks on the door of the vestibule. Ranjeet opens the door and lets Ashok live with him, believing Nirmala.

Ashok turns around, depressed. When Nirmala heard voices at the same time, she is aware that Ashok has already been here. Furious, she rams a knife into Ranjeet's heart and tries to catch up with Ashok. She clears up the misunderstanding. Before she has to face her punishment, she spends the wedding night with her husband.

criticism

"" Dulhan Ek Raat Ki "provides the inclined tragedy fan with a lot of material to bite their teeth into. The story itself is one of the film's strengths, along with Nutan, Dharmendra and some of the songs. The imagery is not bad either, even if it is a bit shirt-sleeved. The same applies to the dialogues and the changed ending, which allows for several interpretations, but is not really open. It just comes in the middle of a scene, just ends earlier than the novel. (...) "Dulhan Ek Raat Ki" is good, but not outstanding. "
