Location of Dumakru

The kingdom of Dumakru ( Hanja : 豆 莫 婁 ; Kor .: 두 막루 ) was a Korean chief empire in what is now central Manchuria . The empire existed from around 410 until it was conquered around 726 . The realm also appears under the names Daemangnu ( 大 莫 婁 / 대 막루 ), Daemangno ( 大 莫盧 / 대막 로 ), and Dalmallu ( 達 末 婁 / 달 말루 ) or in Chinese as Dòumòlóu ( 豆 莫 婁 ).

location

Dumakru was on the northern part of the Songhua River in central Manchuria. Historical documents show that the empire lay north of the Mulgil tribe and east of the Silwi tribe. This means that large parts of the Sonun and Songliao plains must have been part of the realm. The empire would then be roughly where today's Harbin is.

history

Dumakru was founded in 410 by refugees from the Korean Empire Buyeo after the collapse of East Buyeo. Although they were descended from Koreans from Buyeo and Goguryeo , they were linguistically closer to the Xianbei and Kitan tribes . The last historical mention of Dumakru is in a Chinese recording that tells of a visit by diplomats from Dumakru to the Chinese Empire. It is believed that the empire was conquered by the expanding Balhae empire in 726 .

According to Noh Taedon, the founders of Dumangnu probably came from the Buyeo empire in the Jilin region, which was occupied by Goguryeo. From there, Goguryeo pushed further north.
