Dumitru Roşu (born February 16, 1931 in Bogdana , Teleorman district ) is a former Romanian Major General of the Army (Forțele Terestre Române) and politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) .

Life

Roşu attended elementary school from 1937 to 1944 and then high school before he worked as a librarian in his native Bogdana between 1948 and January 1951. He then graduated from the Infantry Officer School in Sibiu between January 1951 and 1952 and was promoted to lieutenant after graduation in 1952 . He was then platoon commander from 1952 to November 1953 and finally company commander in the 209 Infantry Regiment. After graduating from the Bucharest Military Academy from November 1953 to October 1956, he was Chief of Staff of Infantry Regiment 257 between October 1956 and February 1958 and then from February to June 1958 Assistant to the Chief of the Operations and Combat Readiness Department of the 63rd Infantry Division in Craiova . This was followed between 1958 and 1961 as deputy chief and chief of staff of the Mechanized Regiment 114 "Rahova", of which he was in command from 1961 to December 1967. During this time he became a member of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) in 1959 and completed postgraduate studies at the Bucharest Military Academy from 1966 to September 1967 .

In December 1967, Roşu became the commander of the Mechanized Regiment "Rovine" in Craiova and remained at this post until July 1970. This was followed by assignments as chief of staff and first deputy commander and member of the political department of the 10th Mechanized Division " Ștefan cel Mare " between July 1970 and June 6, 1973 . During this time he was promoted to colonel in May 1973 . He was then from June 6, 1973 to April 1980 commander of the 2nd Mechanized Division " Mihai Viteazul " and was promoted as such in October 1978 to major general. In addition, he completed another course at the Bucharest Military Academy in April 1979. In April 1980 he became commander of the 3rd Army and held this position until 1989. At the same time, between March 1980 and 1989 he was commander of the Craiova military district. In 1980 he became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) for the first time and was a member of it until 1989. During his membership in parliament he was from April 1, 1980 to December 22, 1989 member of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs. At the thirteenth party congress of the PCR (November 19-22, 1984) he was a candidate for the Central Committee (ZK) and held this position until November 24, 1989. In 1989 he was finally a member of the leadership council of the Ministry of National Defense and a candidate for the office of the party committee in Dolj district .
