The bridge over the Dunsop River at Dunsop Bridge

Dunsop Bridge is a location in the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire , England . Until 1974 Dunsop Bridge was in the West Riding of Yorkshire . The place is on the River Dunsop and the bridge over this river gives its name to the place in the west of which the River Hodder lies.

Dunsop Bridge was just a collection of a few houses until the 19th century, the location of the place on the road from Lancaster to Clitheroe and the lead mining in the area made the place grow.

In 1865 the Towneley family, who at the time held the title of Lord of Bowland and were local landowners, founded St. Hubert's Catholic Church. It is said that the construction of the church was funded by the prize money of the Ketteldrum horse owned by the Towneley family when they won the derby in Epsom . Hubertus as the patron saint of hunters is also considered the patron saint of the former royal hunting area of the Forest of Bowland.

In 1992 BT put their 100,000. Telephone box in Dunsop Bridge. A plaque was put up in the cell saying a phone call was being made from the center of Britain . This statement was confirmed by the Ordnance Survey insofar as the center of Great Britain is about 7 km north of Dunsop Bridge at Wolfhole Crag . Dunsop Bridge is the closest location to this point.
