The Duo Praxedis

Career

The origins of the Duo Praxedis go back to 1996, when they were asked to perform Bach's double concerto for harp and piano with orchestra. From 2010 the cooperation intensified. The mother-daughter duo performed under the name Duo Praxedis and gives around 40 concerts every year in Switzerland and abroad, thus attracting interest from the international press.

Appearances took place in the Tonhalle Zurich , in the Culture and Congress Center Lucerne , in the Music Hall in Hamburg and the Sala Mozart in Bologna. They also gave concerts at the Esterházy Festival in Eisenstadt , the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and the Engadin Festival (2013, 2014, 2015).

repertoire

The Duo Praxedis has z. B. Original works by Olivia Dussek , Joseph Wölfl , François-Adrien Boieldieu , Alessandro Rolla , Ambroise Thomas , Federigo Fiorillo , Johann Nepomuk Hummel , François-Joseph Naderman , Friedrich Kalkbrenner , Ignaz Josef Pleyel , Claude Debussy , Camille Saint-Saëns or Maurice Ravel recorded.

Furthermore, the duo is also dedicated to works of the Romantic era such as Brahms' Hungarian Dances , for which they have received critical acclaim.

The duo is expanding its repertoire with arrangements for harp and piano as well as commissions for contemporary composers: Since there are only original compositions for harp and piano from the early classical period, they have been arranging works for their own since 2011 that were originally written for two pianos or four-handed piano Instruments. They also commission compositions for the combination of harp and piano. A world first came about with the creation of the double concerto by Olivier Waespi , premiered in 2014 in the Tonhalle Zurich and further commissioned compositions by Daniel Fueter , Carl Rütti , Fabian Müller and Alfred Zimmerlin .

The duo released numerous albums with compositional arrangements such as B. the Sonata in D major KV 448 (375a) for 2 pianos by Mozart , Johann Strauss ' Fledermaus and Franz Schubert military march (all three on Moschulast on Preiser Records) and the complete Hungarian Dances by Brahms (21 Hungarian Dances on paladino media) .

The duo is also dedicated to contemporary music from Switzerland. With the album Sound of Zurich , the artists present works by Zurich composers within Switzerland.

In 2015 original Classics was published with original works for harp and piano from the late 18th century. The album was reviewed by print and online magazines, including Concerti , the online blog HarpColumn and Planet Hugill

At the beginning of the pandemic-related shutdown 2020, the musicians, who design new clothes for each project, published an exclusive stream on IDAGIO on the stuff of dreams. In this way, the mother-daughter duo uses the most modern means to introduce the world of small country castles by authors such as Jane Austen and series such as Downton Abbey.

In addition, the duo has published the complete oeuvre of Queen Victoria's composing court harpist, John Thomas, in a four-part series on the British label Toccata.
