Dzikowiec (until December 20, 1998 Stary Dzikowiec ) is a village in the powiat Kolbuszowski of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with about 6500 inhabitants.

The place is located on the Olszynka River.

history

The place was founded in 1566 by Jędrzej Konarzewski , the mayor of Lipnica, under German law on the land of the village of Wola Radziechowska. In 1577 a Roman Catholic parish was established.

When Poland was first partitioned , Dzikowiec became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1783 in the course of the Josephine colonization , German colonists of Catholic denomination were settled. The colony was called Wildenthal and became an independent municipality, now Nowy Dzikowiec .

In 1900 the community of Dzikowiec had 275 houses with 1420 inhabitants, all of them Polish-speaking, 1400 Roman Catholic, 20 Jews.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Dzikowiec came to Poland.

In 1921 the village of Dzikowiec had 247 houses with 1206 inhabitants, all of them Poles, 1202 Roman Catholic, 4 Jews.

During the Second World War it belonged to the Generalgouvernement.

From 1975 to 1998 Dzikowiec was part of the Rzeszów Voivodeship .
