Eugen Ovidiu Chirovici (born May 11, 1964 in Făgăraş ) is a Romanian economist , writer and journalist .

life and work

Eugene Chirovici comes from a Romanian-Hungarian-German family from Transylvania . After completing his school education, he studied economics at the Bucharest Business Academy and the University of Glasgow and then worked as a journalist for well-known radio and television stations, including the BBC , Radio Free Europe and Televiziunea Română . Until 2000 he was editor-in-chief of the business newspaper Curierul Național , from 2000 to 2002 head of the Romanian private broadcaster B1 TV . He then worked from 2002 to 2009 as an advisor on economic issues for the Romanian government, including for the former Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Năstase , and also advised the Board of Directors of the Romanian National Bank . In 2002 he was awarded the Steaua României by President Ion Iliescu . In 2012 Eugen Chirovici moved to England with his family .

In addition to non-fiction books and numerous specialist articles, for which he has received several journalism awards, he has been writing short stories and novels since the 1990s. His debut novel Masacrul , which he published in 1991, was a great success in Romania and sold more than 100,000 copies. His international breakthrough came after he moved to England with his first English-language novel The Book of Mirrors , which was sold in 38 countries and was published by Goldmann in 2017 under the German title Das Buch der Spiegel .

Since 2012 Eugen Chirovici has devoted himself exclusively to his writing. He has lived in Brussels with his wife since 2015 .
