The ETH library is the largest public natural science and technical library in Switzerland . It acts as the central university library of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) and as a national center for scientific and technical information. In addition to providing information for members of the ETH Zurich, it also offers resources for the public and for research and development companies. Library of Earth Sciences ETH Zurich

The four special libraries of the ETH-Bibliothek are responsible for supplying subject-specific literature to the relevant departments and institutes at ETH Zurich. Their holdings are generally also available to the public. The special libraries include:

Research in the search portal

The search portal is the central platform for researching analog and digital resources at the ETH Library. Digital research platform

Research Collection

The Research Collection is ETH Zurich's publication platform. Members of the university can publish full academic texts in Open Access and archive research data or make them publicly accessible. In addition, the Research Collection records all publications created at ETH Zurich and serves as a source for publication lists in academic reports and on ETH Zurich websites.

Selected services

Lending courier

As the operator of the library network NEBIS (network of libraries and information centers in Switzerland), the ETH-Bibliothek operates a free courier service together with around 40 NEBIS libraries. Library customers have the option of having documents from the participating institutions delivered to the library of their choice.

DOI desk

The DOI desk at ETH Zurich is located at the ETH Library and acts as the central DOI registration office for universities and research institutions in Switzerland. This service is provided in cooperation with DataCite , among others .

Research data management and data preservation department

The Research Data Management and Data Preservation Office advises researchers at ETH Zurich on questions relating to the handling of research data and digital data. The ETH Data Archive provides the technical infrastructure for electronic long-term archiving and publication of this data.

DigiCenter

The DigiCenter is a service provider in the areas of digitization and metadata processing. It carries out digitization projects in cooperation with institutions at ETH Zurich and Swiss libraries.

Current projects

The ETH-Bibliothek carries out a number of future-oriented projects. These ensure that the service and product portfolio is geared towards the needs of the target groups. The cooperation projects of national relevance funded by third parties include:

  • Research Data Life-Cycle Management (DLCM): The project objective is the "creation of sustainable and concrete solutions at national level for the management of research data over the entire life cycle." The project should be completed by July 2018.
  • Swiss Library Service Platform (SLSP) "The aim of the SLSP project is to provide a central service platform for academic libraries." Services in the field of technology and standardization as well as library services are considered. The platform is to be implemented by 2019.
