European Hard and Lignite Association
The European coal and lignite Association (Engl. European Association for Coal and Lignite , shortly Euracoal ) is a trade association of the European coal industry . The association, based in Brussels, is the umbrella organization for national organizations and was founded in 2003. The members include the German Brown Coal Industry Association and the General Association of Hard Coal .
Positions
Euracoal claims on its website that the association and the lignite and hard coal companies it organizes are responsible for meeting the climate protection targets agreed in the Paris Agreement. According to media reports, however , the association doubts climate change . For example, B. Secretary General Brian Ricketts, climate change is "politically motivated" and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC) is a political body and has nothing to do with science. In 2016, Euracoal invited the climate denier Patrick Moore , who denies the global warming caused not least by greenhouse gas emissions from coal burning , to give a speech paid by the association to EU officials.
