East Sparta is a village in Stark County , Ohio , United States . The population was 806 at the 2000 census . East Sparta belongs to Canton - Massillon - metropolitan region .
history
The Pike Township , from which Sparta and East Sparta later emerged, was founded on March 16, 1815. The township was built on part of the Canton Township . Two years later, the Bethlehem Township was separated from the Pike Township. In 1815 the surveyor Amos Janney submitted the plan to found a community which he named after the ancient Greek city of Sparta .
Facilities
East Sparta has one school, the East Sparta Elementary School , as well as two churches, the East Sparta Christian Church and the East Sparta United Methodist Church.
