The Eau Noire is a river in the Belgian - French border area, in the western Ardennes .

The Eau Noire rises north of Rocroi , France, and describes a large arc in its course: it initially flows westward on an undulating plateau and largely forms the state border with Belgium. Then they crossed the border runs northeast through a deeply cut gorge cut to Couvin and finally reached the community Viroinval belonging Nismes . Shortly thereafter, after around 44 kilometers, it joins the Eau Blanche river and thereby forms the Viroin river , which in turn flows into the Meuse on French territory . On its way, the Eau Noire touches the French Ardennes department and the Belgian province of Namur .
