Eberhard Crusius (born July 30, 1907 in Perleberg , † July 11, 1976 in Oldenburg ) was a German archivist . From 1958 to 1969 he was director of the Oldenburg State Archives (today's name: Lower Saxony State Archives (Oldenburg location) ).

Life

Crusius's father was an officer who had been a senior official in the Reichsdienst from 1918, and from 1924 a councilor at the pension office in Oldenburg. For this reason, Eberhard Crusius came to Oldenburg for the first time as a student in 1924. In 1926 he completed his high school education at the " Alten Palais ". He first studied history , German and Latin in Marburg , then Munich and Berlin and finally again in Marburg . He received his doctorate as a student of the medievalist Edmund Ernst Stengel . In 1934 he went into the preparatory service for the profession of scientific archivist in Prussia . Two years later he passed the “Archival State Examination” at the Prussian “Institute for Archival Science” in Dahlem . At first he was employed as an archive assistant in the State Archives in Kiel , then in 1940 as archivist in the Reich Archives in Danzig , which he had to leave as a result of the war. In the State Archives in Osnabrück , Crusius found a new job as archivist until he was transferred to Oldenburg on February 1, 1958. Soon thereafter, he was appointed "State Archives Director".

When Eberhard Crusius took office as the new archive director, the Oldenburg Archive was integrated into the Niersächsische archive administration, because the previous archive director Hermann Lübbing was appointed archive manager during the time of the Oldenburg Free State . Under Crusius' direction, the large extension was added to the archive from 1961 to 1964. One focus of Crusius' research was the development in Oldenburg during the time of Peter Friedrich Ludwig . Crusius was responsible for the edition of Part I (History) of the Oldenburg Yearbook since 1963. In 1969, at the age of 62, chronic illness forced Crusius to leave his place at the Oldenburg archive.

Memberships

Crusius had been a corresponding member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia since 1966. He was also a member of the working group of the state cultural institutes in Oldenburg, the advisory board of the Oldenburger Landesverein and the committee of the historical commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen .
