Eberhard Haun (born October 1, 1949 in Magdeburg ; † August 8, 1976 in Braunschweig ) was a German football player . He was considered one of the greatest talents in his club Eintracht Braunschweig , for which he played from 1970 and completed a total of 101 games.

Career

In the amateur team of Eintracht, the talent Haun attracted attention in the 1969/70 season. After the championship title in the amateur league of Lower Saxony, he moved into the final of the German amateur championship with his teammates . The final was lost to defending champions SC Jülich in 1910 with 3-0 goals, but Haun got a contract with the licensed team of Eintracht Braunschweig. His professional time began with the 1970/71 season, in which he was used in 13 Bundesliga games. He made his debut in the Bundesliga on January 30, 1971 in a 3-1 win against 1. FC Cologne. After the championship year 1967 , despite a fourth place in his debut season in the Bundesliga, they could no longer build on their old successes. Personally, his record in 1971/72 under coach Otto Knefler was very good with 33 appearances in the Bundesliga, mostly in midfield alongside Bernd Gersdorff and Friedhelm Haebermann . The Braunschweig talent was rewarded by being called to the B national team at the international match on March 29, 1972 in Tatabánya against Hungary by DFB coach Jupp Derwall . He was substituted on for Wolfgang Frank and scored one goal in the German team's 2-0 victory. The attack of the B-Elf consisted of Reiner Geye , Dietmar Danner , Klaus Wunder , Wolfgang Frank (Eberhard Haun) and Willi Reimann . One month later, on April 29th, Haun also made his debut in the junior national team (U23) . He played in the EM quarter-final game in Yerevan, which was lost 3-1 goals against the Soviet Union. For his second appearance in the U23 of the DFB, the Braunschweiger came on May 8, 1973 in Randers at the European Championship qualifier against Denmark. After relegation in 1973 to the Regionalliga Nord , the immediate promotion could be achieved; Eberhard Haun scored five goals in 18 games. In the year of promotion, the ninth place could be reached straight away. In the Bundesliga season 1974/75 Haun was no longer used. Because of a knee injury, he had to end his professional career in 1974. He then coached FC Schöningen 08 until his death.

Eberhard Haun was involved in the Bundesliga scandal in 1970 and was sentenced to a fine in 1971.

Haun studied sports and art and also painted surrealistic pictures.

He died on August 8, 1976 after a traffic accident in a Braunschweig hospital. On July 14, 1976, his vehicle was hit by a train on an unrestricted level crossing near Groß Brunsrode.
