Eberhard Schwickerath
Eberhard Schwickerath (born July 4, 1856 in Solingen ; † May 29, 1940 in Bonn ) was a German choir director , lawyer and university teacher .
Life
Schwickerath studied law at the Universities of Bonn and Leipzig . In the winter of 1874/75 he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (now the German Choir ). During his time as a trainee lawyer in Cologne , he also studied at the local music academy with Isidor Seiß ( composition ) and Gustav Jensen ( counterpoint ). He completed his musical training with Anton Bruckner in Vienna .
Schwickerath then worked in Cologne until 1887 and as music director of the Aachen Symphony Orchestra until 1912 . In 1912 he was appointed to the Academy of Music in Munich . In addition, between 1888 and 1920 he was part of the overall management of the Lower Rhine Music Festival ten times
In 1900 Schwickerath was appointed professor and in 1926 a secret councilor.
