Village church in Groß Zicker

The village church Groß Zicker is the Protestant parish church of the parish Groß Zicker on the Mönchgut peninsula on the island of Rügen . Besides the church itself, the old cemetery with the Jakobstein is worth seeing.

The choir was probably built around 1350, the nave a little later. The monastery of Eldena acquired the monastic estate in 1360; in the deed of purchase an ecclesia sive capella (church or chapel) in Groß Zicker is mentioned. This would make the church the oldest building on Mönchgut.

From 1878 to 1906 Emil Steurich (1852–1921) was pastor at the church. As a writer, he wrote stories about the history of Rügen.

Buildings

The Gothic church has a five-sided choir with a ribbed vault with a pear rod profile and a flat-roofed nave . The church tower is made of wood.

A comprehensive restoration of the interior took place from 1968 to 1982, and the roof was renewed in 1998. The nave and choir are covered with bricks, the tower with wooden shingles.

Furnishing

When the church was inaugurated, red consecration crosses were placed on the walls , which can still be seen today.

The oldest pieces of equipment are the Altarmensa, the approx. 500-year-old sacrament shrine carved from an oak trunk, as well as one of the oldest bells on Rügen. It was probably cast around 1400 and bears the bell saying: O rex glorie christe. veni cum pace . (Christ, King of Glory, come in peace). In 2000 two more bells were purchased.

The original colored window panes date from 1595. They were stored for 30 years and have been installed again since 2009.

The baroque pulpit dates from 1653 and was restored in 1917.

On the walls of the choir there are some gravestones from the period from 1742 to 1844, some only with the year and house brand .

The baptismal font of the master stonemason doll is made of granite and was added in 1859.

The organ , which was built by the Barnim Grüneberg company from Szczecin , dates from 1864 and was renovated in 1999.

The wheel chandelier in the nave was donated to the church in 1868 by the Thiessower pilots. Your name is engraved on the candlestick.

At the beginning of the 20th century the sundial was added to the south side of the church. However, this is one hour behind during summer time .

In December 2001, the Greifswald sailor, pastor and author Gerhard Dallmann donated a votive ship to the church , which represents a cargo ship.
