Eberhard Siewert

Eberhard Siewert (born March 24, 1934 in Chemnitz ( Saxony )) is a former officer of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . Most recently he held the rank of major general .

Life

As the son of a bricklayer, Siewert joined the SED after graduating from high school in 1952 and completed a degree in economics at the University of Economics in Berlin-Karlshorst by 1956 . He joined the National People's Army on September 1, 1956. Here Siewert was an officer until 1958, and later a senior officer in the intelligence administration in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV). In 1958 he was promoted to head of the Enlightenment Administration, a post he held until 1972. During this time Siewert was from 1970 to 1971 an officer auditor at the NVA military academy in Dresden . In 1972 he rose to become Deputy Head of the Enlightenment Administration for Strategic Enlightenment in the MfNV; in this position he remained until 1980. From 1980 to December 1982 Siewert was Deputy Head of Agency Reconnaissance at the MfNV's Reconnaissance Administration. On October 7, 1982 he was appointed major general and worked from 1982 until his release on September 30, 1990 as commander of the Military Science Institute in Klietz , which was subordinate to the intelligence department of the NVA's main staff.
