Eberhard Wesemann

Eberhard Wesemann (born January 7, 1944 in Leipzig ) is a German publisher , editor and translator .

Life

After attending the Thomasschule in Leipzig , Eberhard Wesemann studied Romance and German at the University of Leipzig . From 1971 to 2008 he worked in the editorial offices of the Insel , Suhrkamp and Deutscher Klassiker Verlag publishers in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig .

In addition to work editions, he mainly published novels , memoirs and stories from the Francophone area, especially from the 18th century. His editorial efforts focused on well-known Enlightenment authors such as Voltaire , Rousseau or Lesage , as well as on the breadth and complexity of narrative work of this epoch in France.

Some of the works edited or edited by him, including " Leipzig im Taumel ", the anthology " French storytellers from Lesage to Mirabeau " or the " Diaries of the executioners of Paris " (see also list of publications), achieved considerable print runs.

Eberhard Wesemann has a profound knowledge of the history of this publisher in both parts of Germany due to his many years of experience with Insel Verlag and has also published in the Insel-Bücherei'sMessages for Friends ” . To this day, he has been working with researchers and students who are interested in the complex relationships and intra-German cooperation of this publishing house in the decades of the Cold War .

Eberhard Wesemann has two daughters and has lived in Nice and Leipzig since 2009 .
