Echinopsis lageniformis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet lageniformis is derived from the Latin words lagena for 'bottle' and formis for 'shaped' and refers to the shape of the shoots.

Echinopsis lageniformis grows tree-shaped, is somewhat branching and reaches heights of growth of up to 5 meters. The cylindrical, light green, slightly glauken shoots have a diameter of 10 to 15 centimeters. There are four to eight blunt ribs that are broadly furrowed. The areoles on them are large and are up to 2 centimeters apart. The two to six yellowish thorns arising from them are unequal. They are acicular to sub-like, not swollen at their base and up to 10 centimeters long.
The long funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They are up to 18 inches long. The spherical fruits are hairy and have a length of 5 to 6 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinopsis lageniformis is distributed in the Bolivian departments of La Paz , Cochabamba and Chuquisaca as well as possibly in neighboring Peru at altitudes of 1000 to 3300 meters.
The first description as Cereus lagenaeformis by Carl Friedrich Förster was published in 1861. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
The following taxa were as synonymous included in the Type: Cereus bridgesii Salm-Dyck (1850), Trichocereus bridgesii (Salm-Dyck) Britton & Rose (1920), Trichocereus crassicostatus F.Ritter (1966) and Trichocereus riomizquensis F.Ritter (1980) .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
