Echinopsis lamprochlora is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet lamprochlora is derived from the Greek words lampros for 'shiny' and chloros for 'yellowish green' and refers to the color of the shoots.

description

Echinopsis lamprochlora grows shrubby , is somewhat branching from the base and reaches heights of growth of up to 2 meters. The cylindrical, upright, glossy green shoots are 7 to 8 centimeters in diameter. There are 15 low ribs that are rounded. The stiff, pungent, yellowish, brownish tipped thorns arising from the areoles turn reddish brown with age. The four crossed central spines are 2.7 to 3 centimeters long. The lower one is bent downwards. The twelve to 15 radial spines have a length of 0.6 to 0.9 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They are 20 to 24 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis lamprochlora is distributed in the Argentine provinces of La Rioja and Córdoba in the hilly Andean foothills at altitudes of 500 to 1500 meters.

The first description as Cereus lamprochlorus by Charles Lemaire was published in 1838. Heimo Friedrich and Wolfgang Glätzle put the species in 1983 in the genus Echinopsis .

Other nomenclature synonyms are Echinocereus lamprochlorus (Lem.) Rümpler (1885) and Trichocereus lamprochlorus (Lem.) Britton & Rose (1920). In addition, the following taxa were included as synonymous in the species: Cereus nitens Salm-Dyck (1845), Trichocereus candicans var. Nitens (Salm-Dyck) F. Ritter (1980), Trichocereus purpureopilosus Weing. (1930) and Echinopsis purpureopilosa (Weing.) H. Friedrich & GDRowley (1974).
