Echinopsis macrogona is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet macrogona is derived from the Greek words macros for 'large' and gonia for 'edge' and refers to the ribs of the species.

Echinopsis macrogona grows shrubby with several upright branches and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. The cylindrical, rigid, blue-green shoots reach a diameter of 5 to 9 centimeters. There are six to nine distinct, rounded ribs with narrow intermediate furrows. The areoles on them are gray and 1.5 to 2 centimeters apart. The needle-like thorns emerging from them are yellowish to brown. The one to three protruding central spines are 3 to 5 centimeters long. The six to nine straight radial spines are spread out and have a length of up to 2 centimeters.
The funnel-shaped, white flowers appear near the shoot tips and are open at night. They are up to 18 inches long.
Distribution and systematics
Echinopsis macrogona is likely to be found in Bolivia .
The first description as Cereus macrogonus by Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck was published in 1850. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
Another nomenclature synonym is Trichocereus macrogonus (Salm-Dyck) Riccob. (1909).
Echinopsis macrogona belongs to the further relatives of Echinopsis pachanoi .
