Real Doktorfische ( Acanthurus ) is a rich variety of species of the family doctor fish (Acanthuridae). Their preferred habitat are coral reefs , shallow lagoons and reef edges of tropical seas, where they mainly feed on algae . Because of their attractive coloring, they are often shown in public aquariums. However, they are extremely difficult to keep, as many species have a pronounced swimming instinct and need a correspondingly large pool. They are also aggressive towards many other types of fish and have high demands on their diet and water quality.
