Eckart Ehlers (Pastor)

Eckart Ehlers (born July 6, 1939 in Kiel-Ellerbek ) is a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor and Low German author .

Life

After finishing school, Ehlers first did a commercial apprenticeship at the wholesale company Franz Ritter in Kiel's Hafenstrasse, where he then worked as an employee and later, until 1970, as an authorized signatory .

Already at this time he attended as a guest student theology courses of the University of Kiel . After studying theology, he became vicar at the Nikolaikirche in Kiel, from 1972 until his retirement he worked for 31 years as a pastor at the Marienkirche in Schönkirchen , where he regularly preached Low German and wrote publications for the Kieler Nachrichten . He became known nationwide from 1972 through his Low German morning devotions on the NDR and through book publications.

He inherited his love for Low German from his grandparents, but also explained in his contributions the subtle dialect differences that are spoken in the Probstei , Ostholstein , Lübeck and Dithmarschen . In his sermons, Ehlers combined these to form what is known as the Mittelholsteinisches Platt, a language in which he also wrote eleven booklets published by Michael Jung. Ehlers' contributions have local color and references to historical events and people, they are often characterized by a warm, humorous tone.

Eckart Ehlers lives as a retired pastor with his wife in Schönkirchen, they have two children.
