Eckhart Pilick

Eckhart Pilick (* 1937 in Cologne ) is a German author .

Life

After graduating from the Leonardo-da-Vinci-Gymnasium in Cologne-Nippes and doing military service in the armed forces in Bremen, he studied philosophy, literature and theater studies, African studies and sinology at the universities of Hamburg and Cologne from 1959 to 1967. From 1959 to 1966 he was editor of the Cologne student newspaper “perspektiven”. After studying in London, Paris and Stockholm, he was lecturer for German at the Folkuniversitetet in Sweden from 1968 to 1969 . Then in 1969 the doctorate in Cologne. From 1970 to 2000 Pilick worked as a state preacher for the Free Religious State Community of Baden. In addition to pastoral care and lecturing in the communities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Heilbronn, Karlsruhe, Konstanz, Lörrach, Mannheim, Pforzheim and Tübingen, he was responsible for funeral ceremonies, baptisms and weddings. From 1973 he was a lecturer for free religious teaching at the University of Education in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe . From 1973 to 2000 he was also (chief) editor of the monthly magazine for religious self-determination "Free Religion" (later: "Paths without Dogma"). He gave radio speeches in the BR, SDR, SWF and WDR and was an employee (temporarily member of the board) of the IARF / International Association for Religious Freedom ( World Federation for Religious Freedom ). He lectured at the IARF congresses in Montreal (1974), Oxford (1983) and Hamburg (1990) as well as at the Evangelical Academy in Bad Boll . From 1976 to 1980 he was a representative of the IHEU ( International Humanistic and Ethical Union , NGO) at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and in 1983 “Minister in Residence” at the Meadville-Lombard Theological School in Chicago .

Pilick represented a critical pantheism and maintained contacts with the IARF member organizations, in particular with Rissho Kosei Kai and Konko − Kyo in Japan , the Union for Free Christianity as well as with the Unitarians in Romania and Hungary and the USA.
