Arthur Drews.

Christian Heinrich Arthur Drews (born November 1, 1865 in Uetersen ( Holstein ), † July 19, 1935 in Achern ) was a German philosopher, writer and an important representative of German monism .

Life

After Bruno Bauer and Albert Kalthoff , Arthur Drews, a pupil of Eduard von Hartmann , was one of the most famous German contenders of the existence of a historical Jesus . His work The Christ Myth (1909) gave rise to heated public discussions.

Albert Schweitzer has devoted a chapter to the theses put forward by Drews in his History of Life-Jesus Research (1913). Today the Christ Myth in Germany - unlike in the Anglo-Saxon countries, where a translation (The Christ Myth) is still on the market - has largely been forgotten.

He died in the mental hospital Illenau in Achern, is next to the theologian Karl Bernhard Hundeshagen (1810-1872), Princess Princess Alexandra of Bavaria (1826-1875) and the mayor of Heilbronn Paul Hegelmaier (1847-1912) for their most famous patients.
