The Eckher von Kapfing were old Bavarian tournament aristocrats, who died out in the male line in 1820. A baron letter dates from 1691.

A Ulrich Eckher to Kapfing and Lichteneck took part in the tournament at Regensburg in 1412 and was in 1425, a judge in Landshut . He is buried in the Church of St. Jodok (Jobsten) . His wife Elspeth was a court lady . A Hans Eckher zu Kapfing is mentioned in 1454 as Kastner zu Rosenhaimd . Konrad Eckher died in 1437 as provost of St. Mang in Regensburg.

Ott Eckher von Kapfing zu Pfetrach was in 1478 Kastner zu Teisbach . Sigmund Eckher took part in three tournaments: 1484 at the 32nd tournament in Ingolstadt, 1496 the 34th tournament in Bamberg and 1487 at the 35th tournament in Regensburg. His wife was a Rohrbeckin . He died in Moosburg in 1512 and is buried in the local collegiate church. His brother Wolfgangus Eckher von Kapfing died as a canon and pastor of St. Emmeram .

Hans Eckher zu Kapfing was the caretaker of Dingolfing . His wife was an Ayglin from Salzburg. One son from this marriage was Christoph Georg , married to a woman from Schönburg and a carer at Veste Oberhaus zu Passau. His brother David Eckher was a nurse in Oberhofen. He had a son named Rudolf († 1578), who was also a carer for Oberhofen.

Johann Christoph zu Kapfing, Lichteneck and Thurn (* 1608, † 1685) was raised to the baron status in 1640 . His wife was Regina von Kürmreith. His son Oswald Ulrich was court marshal of Freising , Johann Franz (* 1649, † 1727) was prince-bishop of Freising, Johann Christoph was churb Bavarian chief steward, later chief stableman of Freising. This in turn had four sons, who continued the family.

The last of the Eckher zu Kapfing was Ludwig Freiherr von Käpfingen , President of the Naab and Regenkreis. He died in 1820 and left two daughters, one of whom died in the women's monastery in Munich in 1879.

The family relationship to other Eckern is not known.

The heart shield shows three upright alarm clocks, on the helmet a yellow crown, above it two buffalo horns with the three alarm clocks. In each opening of these horns are three silver ostrich feathers.

The coat of arms of the Freiherrn von Eckh auf Kapfing shows a shield divided into two skin fields. The upper main field is red and white, in it the crescent moon; the lower one is white with a wolf in it. The upper shield is black and white, the front helmet has the wings, the middle one the griffin and the rear one the wolf.
