background

Even before the album was released, the single UnOpened was released and hit the Finnish charts.

»Ecliptica« was recorded at Tico-Tico Studios. To promote their album, Sonata Arctica went on tour with Stratovarius and Rhapsody .

In 2014 the band announced that they would re-record and release their debut album for the 15th anniversary. On October 24, 2014, the new recording was released under the title Ecliptica Revisited: 15th Anniversary Edition. The first single of the new recording was "Kingdom for a Heart", which was released digitally on September 12, 2014. According to Klingenberg, the song was chosen to "represent the overall sound of the album".

The songs on the album deal with different topics. For example, Blank File deals with internet privacy . Also, Dana O'Hara, who is addressed in Letter to Dana , is said to be a reference to Dana Scully from the X-Files .

criticism

"" Ecliptica "is a very good album with great songs and in 1999 it was an innovative album. In my opinion this album is way better than Sonata Arctica's next album, "Silence". While "Silence" has a better production, "Ecliptica" has a better atmosphere and overall more interesting compositions. "

Review of Ecliptica Revisited: 15th Anniversary Edition

“Everyone has to decide for themselves whether the new production was actually necessary. What is certain is that SONATA ARCTICA did not reinvent the wheel with "Ecliptica - Revisited". The album definitely reminds you of how the band's success story began back then. And at least for those who have not yet accessed the "Revisited" version is almost a must - for old fans it is at least recommended. "

- Lisa Marie : metal.de

“ECLIPTICA - REVISITED is always good for nostalgic digression into the times before the drastic changes and the fading of the spark. For fans who already have the original in good quality, a short audio sample may well be worthwhile - but the new recording of ECLIPTICA does not have to be on the shelf. "
