The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations ( English United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific , ESCAP or UNESCAP ) is a Commission of the United Nations for East Asia and the Pacific , based in Bangkok . It was founded in 1947.
Its tasks include promoting economic and social development aid in the 62 member states, 9 of which are not members of the United Nations .
Associate members
In addition to full members, the following territories have the status of associate membership as they are not members of the United Nations:

- Cook Islands (July 11, 1972)
- French Polynesia (July 31, 1992)
- Guam (July 24, 1981)
- Hong Kong, China (November 25, 1947)
