Eduard Mahir "Eddy" Sidra (born February 20, 1989 in Khartoum , Sudan ) is a former Canadian football player.

Club career

Sidra, whose parents come from Sudan, played for the University of Alberta's college team , the Alberta Golden Bears , from 2006 to 2007 . Sidra won the Canadian college championship with the Bears in 2006 and was named the best newcomer of the season (“rookie”) within the team. In the summer of 2007, a scout gave him a trial training session at the German club Energie Cottbus , which eventually accepted him into the A-youth team. In 2008 he moved up to the second team of Cottbus and completed 15 games in the Regionalliga Nord , from which they were relegated as bottom of the table. In the following league season he came to 14 missions, as a relay champion succeeded in the immediate promotion to the regional league.

On January 28, 2011, he completed a trial training at Toronto FC . He was invited to the Major League Soccer team's training camp. Toronto did not commit him.

In April 2011 he moved to FC Edmonton in the new North American Soccer League . He made his league debut for the team on matchday one when they won 2-1 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers . At the end of the season, his contract was not extended by the club and Sidra enrolled again at the University of Alberta .

National team

Sidra took part in the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 championship in Trinidad and Tobago with the Canadian U-20 team, but missed qualifying for the 2009 Junior World Cup in Egypt with his team by being eliminated in the preliminary round . At the end of May 2009 he was called up to the Canadian senior team for the first time and made his international debut in a friendly match against Cyprus on May 30, 2010 followed by two more international appearances in friendly matches against Jamaica and Venezuela and several appointments in training camps of the U23 national team .
