Edgar Montague Amphlett (born September 1, 1867 in Dorchester , † January 9, 1931 in London ) was a British fencer .
Life
Edgar Amphlett took part in two Olympic Games : at the 1908 Olympic Games in London , he and Robert Montgomerie , Leaf Daniell , Cecil Haig , Martin Holt and Edgar Seligman won the silver medal in the team competition with the sword. In the individual competition he was eliminated in the second round. In 1912 he repeated the team success in Stockholm with Robert Montgomerie, John Blake , Percival May Davson , Arthur Everitt , Cecil Haig, Martin Holt and Edgar Seligman by winning the silver medal in the epee competition. In singles he was eliminated with the sword this time in the semifinals, as well as in the foil singles. With the sword he became British champion in 1910 and with the foil in 1911.
Amphlett was a journalist . He reported for 16 years from the Parliament of the United Kingdom , doing so from 1899 for the daily newspaper The Times . During the First World War he was a war correspondent in France. He wanted to join the army, but was initially not considered due to his advanced age. In September 1915 it was finally called up. For four years Amphlett worked as a transport officer for the railroad. After the war he returned to the Times. Amphlett was married and had two sons and a daughter.
