Edgar Mais

Edgar Mais (born March 27, 1926 in Siesbach ) is a German teacher , local researcher and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Mais attended the advanced high school and then the teachers' seminar , which he had to interrupt because of his participation in the Second World War . After the end of the war he continued his teacher training. In 1948 he passed the first and in 1951 the second teacher examination. He initially worked as a primary school teacher and passed the examination for teaching at secondary schools in 1967. He then worked as a secondary school teacher, from 1971 as a teacher.

Mais joined the SPD in 1959. From 1960 he was a member of the district council in the Birkenfeld district and from 1969 a councilor for the city of Idar-Oberstein . From 1968 to 1970 he was chairman of the SPD Idar-Oberstein city association. In 1969 he was elected to the executive committee of the SPD sub-district. In the state elections in 1971 , 1975 and 1979 he was elected as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, to which he was a member until 1983.

Since 1985 Mais has published writings on local history of Idar-Oberstein and the surrounding area, in particular on the history of National Socialism with a focus on the persecution of Jews . In 2013 he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Birkenfeld district.

He lives in the Göttschied district of Idar-Oberstein .
