Göttschied is a district of the city of Idar-Oberstein in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

The district is located east of the Idar district and, as the third largest district, is now part of the new core city area.

history

The place was founded in 960 as Jascheit or Getschied a suburb of the Mettlach Abbey .

Until the village was incorporated into the town of Idar-Oberstein, Göttschied was an independent municipality that was most recently part of the Herrstein Association .

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform , Göttschied was incorporated into the city of Idar-Oberstein together with three other communities on June 7, 1969.

Buildings

The Evangelical Abbey Church in Göttschied is a listed hall building with a turret with origins from 1620.

Economy and Infrastructure

Business

There are three restaurants and a savings bank in the village. The Jost bakery has its wood-fired oven bakery on Göttschieder Straße. Göttschied is connected to the “Vollmersbachtal” industrial park via Flugplatzstrasse.

Public facilities

The Idar-Oberstein Clinic, the largest hospital in the district, is on Dr.-Ottmar-Kohler-Strasse.
The institutions of the Lebenshilfe Obere Nahe and the Peter Caesar special school shape the townscape.

The Göttschied sports airfield and the soccer club's “Auf der Krumm” sports area are located on the K 37 .
