history

Coat of arms office Weierbach

Weierbach was originally called "Martin-Weierbach" and was opposite the village of Georg-Weierbach . Over the years, the addition disappeared from the place name. Due to the fact that the country belonged to different countries until the 20th century - (Martin-) Weierbach belonged to the Principality of Lichtenberg , Georg-Weierbach to the Principality of Birkenfeld - it was also possible to differentiate between the communities.

Weierbach was the seat of the Weierbach Office and the later Weierbach Association.

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform , Weierbach was incorporated into the city of Idar-Oberstein together with four other communities on November 7, 1970.
