Colleville-Montgomery (formerly Colleville-sur-Orne ) is a French municipality with 2437 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Canton Ouistreham the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . Colleville-Montgomery belongs to the Arrondissement of Caen ; its inhabitants are called Collevillais .
geography
Colleville-Montgomery is located on the coast of the English Channel (the Côte de Nacre - mother-of-pearl coast ). Colleville-Montgomery is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ouistreham in the east, Saint-Aubin-d'Arquenay in the southeast, Biéville-Beuville in the south, Périers-sur-le-Dan in the southwest and Hermanville-sur-Mer in the west.
The former National Route 514 runs through the municipality .
history
On June 6, 1944, the beach at Colleville was also the scene of the Allied landing operation between Juno Beach and Sword Beach with the 1st Special Service Brigade under Lord Lovat . In recognition of the achievement, the parish adopted the name of British General Bernard Montgomery in 1946 .
