Mathieu is a commune with 2,223 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Caen and the canton of Ouistreham (until 2015: canton of Douvres-la-Délivrande ). The inhabitants are known as Mathieusains .

geography

Mathieu is close to the coast of the English Channel . Mathieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cresserons and Plumetot in the north, Hermanville-sur-Mer in the northeast, Périers-sur-le-Dan in the east, Biéville-Beuville in the southeast, Cambes-en-Plaine in the south, Anisy in the west, Anguerny in the West and north-west and Douvres-la-Délivrande in the north-west.
