Bernières-sur-Mer is a French commune with 2,308 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Caen and the canton of Courseulles-sur-Mer . The inhabitants are called Bernièrais .
geography
Bernières-sur-Mer is a seaside resort on the English Channel . Bernières-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer in the east, Douvres-la-Délivrande in the south-east, Bény-sur-Mer in the south and south-west and Courseulles-sur-Mer in the west. The former route nationale 814 (today's D514) runs through the municipality .
history
The beach section on the Côte de Nacre was called Juno Beach when the Allied troops met the Germans on June 6, 1944 as part of Operation Neptune .
