Ifs is a commune with 11,766 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Caen . The inhabitants are known as Ifois (es) .
geography
Ifs is five kilometers south of Caen and borders directly south on the urban area. The community is located at the intersection of the N814 and the N158.
Ifs is surrounded by Caen in the north, Cormelles-le-Royal in the northeast, Soliers in the east, Castine-en-Plaine with Hubert-Folie in the southeast, Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay in the south and Fleury-sur-Orne in the west .
history
The area of the municipality Ifs was already settled in the 5th century BC. Excavations from 1982 also unearthed Gallo-Roman buildings. A first documentary mention comes from the year 1070. In 1077 the parish is mentioned as a donation to the monastery of St-Étienne de Caen .
