Avenay is around 12 kilometers from Caen . The municipality is surrounded by Esquay-Notre-Dame in the north, Vieux in the northeast, Amayé-sur-Orne in the east and south-east, Maizet in the south, Vacognes-Neuilly in the south-west, Évrecy in the west and Gavrus in the north-west.
