Saint-Sylvain is a French commune with 1,435 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Caen and the canton of Thury-Harcourt (until 2015: canton of Bretteville-sur-Laize ). The inhabitants are called Soignollais .

Saint-Sylvain is located about 17 kilometers south-southeast of Caen . Saint-Sylvain is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Poussy-la-Campagne in the north, Fierville-Bray in the north and east, Le Bû-sur-Rouvres in the south-east, Soignolles in the south and Cauvicourt in the west and south-west.
