Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay is a French commune with 2,560 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Caen and the canton of Évrecy (until 2015: canton of Bourguébus ). The inhabitants are called Martifontains .

Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay is about seven kilometers south of Caen . Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay is surrounded by the neighboring communities
- Fleury-sur-Orne in the north and north-west,
- Ifs in the north and northeast, Hubert-Folie in the northeast,
- Castine-en-Plaine with Tilly-la-Campagne in the east and Rocquancourt in the southeast,
- Fontenay-le-Marmion in the south,
- May-sur-Orne in the southwest,
- Saint-André-sur-Orne to the west.
The former route nationale 162 (today's D562A) runs through the municipality .
