Thaon is a French commune with 1,571 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Caen and the canton of Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse (until 2015: canton of Creully ). The inhabitants are called Thaonnais .
geography
Thaon is about ten kilometers northwest of Caen on the small river Mue . Thaon is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Fontaine-Henry in the north and northwest, Basly in the north and northeast, Colomby-sur-Thaon in the east and northeast, Anisy in the east, Cairon in the south, Lasson in the south and southwest and Le Fresne-Camilly in the west .
