Location of the association of municipalities in the Normandy region

The Communauté urbaine Caen la Mer is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté urbaine in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy . It was founded on July 28, 2016 and comprises 47 municipalities (as of January 1, 2019). The administrative headquarters are in the city of Caen .

Historical development

The community association was created with effect from January 1, 2017 through the merger of the predecessor organizations

• Communauté d'agglomération Caen la Mer ,
• Communauté de communes Entre Thue et Mue and
• Communauté de communes Plaine Sud de Caen .

At the same time, the Thaon community joined the association.

With effect from January 1, 2019, the previously independent municipalities of Saint-Aignan-de-Cramesnil and Garcelles-Secqueville were merged to form Commune nouvelle Le Castelet , and the previously independent municipalities of Rocquancourt , Hubert-Folie and Tilly-la-Campagne to form Commune nouvelle Castine-en-Plaine merged. The Communes nouvelles were accepted into the community association. This reduced the number of its parishes from 50 to 47.
