The inhabitants are called Brettevillais .

Bretteville-sur-Laize is surrounded by the neighboring communities Fresney-le-Puceux in the north and north-west, Cintheaux in the north-east, Gouvix in the east and south-east, Barbery in the south and south-west and Boulon in the west.
