The Schloßberg is 606.7  m above sea level. NHN high witness mountain of the Weißenburger Alb , part of the low mountain range Franconian Alb . Most of it rises in the Central Franconian district of Roth ( Bavaria ). On the east to the south flank lies Schloßberg, a district of Heideck . The south and west foot of the partly wooded mountain extends into the areas of the communities of Pleinfeld and Ettenstatt in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district . The mountain is the highest in the Roth district and can be seen from large parts of both districts.

The Schloßberg rises in the Altmühltal Nature Park . On the east to south flank lies the village of Schloßberg, a district of Heideck, the core of which is just under 3 km northeast of the mountain peak. At the foot of the mountain are Rambach in the north and Haag in the southwest, two more Heidecker districts, in the southwest with Roxfeld is a Pleinfeld district and far to the south with Reuth under Neuhaus, an Ettenstatter district.

Several rivers arise on and near the Schloßberg, including the Steinbach and Flurbach, the source rivers of the Felchbach , the Thalach tributary Weschelbach and the Rambacher Wasser as a tributary of the Kleine Roth , which emerges to the west of the mountain and flows past to the north .

The district road RH 21 leads over the eastern slope of the mountain through the village of Schloßberg . Numerous forest and hiking trails lead over the mountain.

Parts of the nature reserve protection zone in the Altmühltal nature park are located on the Schloßberg ( CDDA no. 396115; designated 1995; size 1632.9606  km² ).

There is a radio mast on the summit region. On the eastern slope above the village of Schloßberg is the castle stables of Burg Heideck ( 598.5  m ).

Natural allocation

The Schloßberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land (No. 11), the main unit foreland of the Southern Franconian Alb ( 110) and the subunit forland of the Anlauter Alb (110.4) to the natural area Thalach -Quellgebiet (110.40).
