geography

course

The Kleine Roth rises at the transition from the Franconian Alb to the Middle Franconian Basin to the north . The sources of its two source streams are near Mannholz , a district of Pleinfeld in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district :

  • The western and left source brook ( ), which is 1.3 km long, rises almost 500 m north of the village on the eastern slope of the vineyard ( 468  m above sea  level ) in a former swamp area; There two ponds at an altitude of about 468  m are fed by groundwater and rainwater.
  • The southern and right source stream ( ), which is 1.2 km long and already bears the name Kleine Roth on some maps , rises 1.2 km east of the village at an altitude of about 480  m on the northwest slope of the Schloßberg ( 606.7  m ) and runs along the border between the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district and the Roth district.

The confluence of both source streams is near a 435  m high junction with a field cross; here both branches have already entered the district of Roth, in which the Kleine Roth then remains until its mouth.

The Kleine Roth flows, leaving behind the Mannholz lying above both source streams on the ridge separating them, in a northeasterly direction. About 500 m below the confluence, it bends at the edge of the Heideck district of Liebenstadt to the east and then crosses the place under the right Muldenhang Kühbuck . After a further 2 km of flow, it reaches the western edge of the Heidecker core city, from where it turns more and more on a north-east course to the mouth. The Rambacher Wasser , a brook that rises high up on the Schlossberghang, flows into the village first from the southwest , and then a left and right meadow brook; between the two is the half-hectare town pond to the right of the stream.

Shortly before the eastern exit of the village, the Siechenbach comes in from the south opposite the Höfen district bordering the city center and the creek leaves the common soft area. After a short section in the corridor, the Lochbächlein joins from the west-northwest , a little before the Seiboldsmühle district in Heideck , which is on the left bank and slope; Opposite is the wilderness Fichtenmühle immediately to the right of the stream.

Now the Kleine Roth moves over the city limits to the Hilpoltstein area and divides into two arms. The north arm receives the treated wastewater from the Heidecker sewage treatment plant and crosses the Hilpoltstein district of Oberrödel over a kilometer further down , the south arm only touches the place in the south. This was led straight path to the northeast further to the valley of the Roth and flows there to approximately 382  m height in the of next from southeast Rednitz influx Roth , while the north arm northward einbiegt by a respective small and large Mühlweiher into larger valley and the hole mill ends at Oberrödel . The short remnant section runs vertically below the valley meadow and also flows into the Roth about half a kilometer below the main course.

Catchment area, tributaries and lakes

The catchment area of the Kleine Roth is 21.8  km² and extends in the shape of a spindle over 9 km from about Mannholz east-northeast to the mouth near the Lochmühle at Oberrödel . Across it, it measures around 3.5 km at its widest point.

Starting from the mouth, the catchment area of the Höllachgraben borders the upward Roth in the southeast , then the Thalach collects the streams on the other side of the southern watershed. Because this drains over the Schwarzach to the Danube tributary Altmühl , it is part of the European main watershed between the Rhine and the Danube, which further to the west still climbs the Schloßberg and then bends to the south, this Braunjura - Zeugenberg is 606.7  m high the highest point in the entire catchment area. On the following south-west and west border, smaller streams now drain on the other side, mainly via the Felchbach , the Arbach , the Iglseebach to the Swabian Rezat . This also includes the Röttbach running in the western area behind the northern watershed , while the roughly opposite Schweinszuchtbach further east finally joins the now downward Roth.

nature and environment

Water quality

The Kleine Roth is only considered to be moderately polluted by the water quality in its upper reaches as far as Liebenstadt ; the further course is always to be regarded as critically loaded . A stream flowing from Rudletzholz from the south into Heideck is heavily polluted .

Protected areas

Large parts of the course of the Little Roth are in the conservation area protection of the landscape in the area of the district Roth - east Southern Mittelfränkisches basin of the Swabian Rezat and Rednitz with the foothills of the Middle Franconian (LSG East) ( CDDA -No 395,936; reported in 1989; 253. 4833  km² ; LSG-00428.01.); only a 650 m long section in Heideck and the stream section near the mouth from Oberrödel are outside this protected area. In addition, there is monument and ensemble protection for the Old Town Heideck ensemble (No. E-5-76-126-1).

history

In the second century AD, the valley of the Kleine Roth was considered the northernmost end of the civilized world. The former marshland, which the Kleine Roth now drains, and the impenetrable forests immediately to the north made it impossible for the Roman marching and battle formations to advance any further. Only about 7 km to the south they built the northernmost stage of the Limes along the ridge of the main European watershed.
