The Thalach is a creek about 18 kilometers long in the Central Franconian districts of Roth and Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . It flows from Laibstadt in an easterly direction and joins the Schwarzach near the A 9 motorway .
geography
course
The Thalach arises from the confluence of many small springs in a forest area on the eaves of the Weißenburger Alb in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district . The main spring arm rises from the straw fountain on the upper slope about one kilometer northeast of the center of Bergen and initially flows northeast, collecting the first tributaries to the foot of the slope about one and a half kilometers southeast of the Heideck district of Laibstadt . In a flatter course, the brook in the foothills of the Alb passes the town of Laibstadt on its east side and then turns east. In its initially flat basin, the Thalach crosses the villages of Aberzhausen and Alfershausen , from where it runs permanently to approximately east-southeast. Around the following Thalmässing , it enters a deep valley back into the Franconian Alb. It then crosses the Thalachwiesen nature reserve , passes the Zinkelmühle , which belongs to the Kleinhöbing district, and shortly afterwards flows into the Schwarzach between the ICE route from Nuremberg to Munich and the A9 motorway .
The Thalach runs through the northern Altmühltal Nature Park -
From around Laibstadt it is accompanied by the state road St 2389 , from Alfershausen by the St 2225 and from Thalmässing to the mouth, finally by the St 2227 .
Catchment area
The catchment area covers around 63 km² and, in terms of natural space , lies with its northern part in the foreland of the southern Franconian Jura , mainly in the lower Thalach source area , near Thalmässing briefly in the Staufer iron sandstone mountains . The southern part after that belongs to the Schwarzach-Thalach valley funnel of the southern Franconian Jura .
In the north it borders on the catchment area of the Roth , which drains via Rednitz , Regnitz , Main and finally the Rhine to the North Sea, while the drainage of the Thalach ultimately reaches the Black Sea via the Danube . Therefore the northern watershed as part of the main European watershed is hydrologically the most important. Unlike most of the rest, it runs in front of the night eaves and is hardly noticeable in nature. Behind the more prominent southern watershed on the Albtrauf, the Alb plateau mainly drains to the Anlauter , the next major tributary of the Schwarzach.
