Reuth unter Neuhaus ( Reuth uN for short ) is a part of the municipality of Ettenstatt in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen with around 100 inhabitants.

geography

Reuth is located south of the state road St 2389 between Ettenstatt and Laibstadt . The district road WUG 18 leads through the village . Larger places in the area are still Pleinfeld , Ellingen and Weißenburg . About 100 meters southeast of the village is the source of the Engelbach in the forest area Am Zwiefelbrunnen, which flows through the village and is a left tributary of the Felchbach . Ettenstatt is about 2.5 kilometers to the south-west. There is another place within the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district with the same name: Reuth am Wald , part of the nearby community of Raitenbuch .

history

The name Reuth and the layout of the place as a clustered village with a block corridor go back to a clearing that existed at this point in the 12th to 13th centuries. Later, the addition "Unter Neuhaus" was added to the place name. Neuhaus Castle, from which the addition is derived, was owned continuously for 584 years by the noble family of Geyern taverns , who were members of the Franconian knight circle .

Until the municipality reform , Reuth was an independent municipality under Neuhaus, before it joined the municipality of Ettenstatt on January 1, 1973.

St. Mary's Church

In 1480 Reuth owned a chapel that belonged to the parish of Ettenstatt and thus to the diocese of Eichstätt . During this time the foundation stone of today's Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Mary was probably laid. The church, marked as a monument , includes a late Gothic tabernacle from 1500 with a Madonna and Child Jesus. Renewal of the nave took place in 1748 under the direction of Traugott Friedrich Schuchart , with changes around 1840. The church tower, built in 1480 and raised in an octagonal shape in 1748, is crowned by a pointed helmet. A cross vault spans the choir. The baroque pulpit is from 1675.

Neuhaus Castle

In the Middle Ages , Reuth under Neuhaus housed a small castle in the forest just under a kilometer south of the village, which was also called Neuhaus. The "Neuhaus" is only preserved today as a castle stable , which is designated as a ground monument. Nothing is known about the type of Neuhaus Castle and the time of its construction.
