Axel Redmer (born November 9, 1951 in Steinbach (Fernwald) ) is a German lawyer, politician ( SPD ) and author. He has been the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon since 2014 .

Life

Redmer has lived in Weierbach (Idar-Oberstein) since 1953 . In 1971 he finished his school years with the Abitur at the Göttenbach-Gymnasium Idar-Oberstein . After two years of military service, he studied law and history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He then worked as a trainee lawyer at the Mainz Regional Court and from 1984 to 2003 he was an independent lawyer in Idar-Oberstein. Redmer has been married to Sonja Theobald since 1977. The couple has two children.

politics

In the 1969 federal election campaign, Redmer joined the SPD. In 1971 he joined the State Board of the Young Socialists in Rhineland-Palatinate with Rudolf Scharping . From 1978 to 1990 he was a member of the SPD district executive for Rhineland / Hesse-Nassau; 1988/89 of the commission for the Berlin basic program of the SPD and from 1990 to 2010 the Federal Party Council of the SPD. From 1982 he was chairman of the SPD city association Idar-Oberstein and from 1990 chairman of the SPD district association Birkenfeld. He gave up both functions in 2003. In 1991 Redmer was directly elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the constituency of Birkenfeld . He headed the right-wing extremism and violence working group, was the SPD's legal and consumer policy spokesman and was a member of the executive committee of his parliamentary group. Redmer was a member of the environment, legal and home affairs committee and represented the SPD parliamentary group in several committees of inquiry. After he was directly elected member of the state parliament again in 1996 and 2001, in 2002 he won the election to the district administrator of the Birkenfeld district in the first ballot. In 2010 he lost to the CDU candidate Matthias Schneider in the second round of re-election.

Public honorary positions

From 1983 to 1989 Redmer was head of the Idar-Oberstein district of Weierbach. He was a member of the Idar-Oberstein City Council from 1989 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2003; the Birkenfeld district council from 1979 to 2003. He headed the district association of workers' welfare from 1983 to 2005. In 1981 he co-founded the culture initiative DIE SCHNECKE - Forum Culture and Society , of which he has been chairman since then. From 1997 to 2003 he was chairman of the advisory board for the hardship fund of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to support victims of National Socialism; 1998 to 2002 regional chairman of the German Library Association Rhineland-Palatinate and 2003 to 2010 chairman of the Association for Local Studies in the Birkenfeld district. Since 2001 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the Stefan Morsch Foundation for leukemia patients, where he is now on the advisory board.
