Karl-Heinz Franke (General)

Karl-Heinz Franke (born December 22, 1922 in Düsseldorf ; † June 29, 1994 in Aurich ) was a German officer, most recently major general in the Bundeswehr . He was u. a. Commander of the Air Force Officer School and the 4th Air Force Division .

Life

Wehrmacht

In 1941 Franke joined the 33 Aviation Training Regiment in Detmold. In 1942 he received training at Luftkriegsschule  3 in Werder. In the same year he retrained at the Rerik Flak School . In 1942/43 he was deployed with the Boulogne anti-aircraft gun group on the Channel coast in France. In 1943 he attended Air War School 6 in Bernau. In 1943 he was employed as a measurement officer and anti-aircraft combat group leader in the anti-aircraft group Palermo. In 1944 he attended the high school for anti-aircraft weapons technology in Halle. In 1944/45 he was transferred to the heavy flak battery I / 357. In May 1945 he was taken prisoner of war as a lieutenant (since 1943) .

post war period

In August 1945 he was employed by the United Kingdom Forces . He was also an interpreter for the British Red Cross in Düsseldorf. In 1946/47 he studied at the Pedagogical Academy in Essen . From 1947 to 1956 he worked as a primary and secondary school teacher in Düsseldorf . Later he got involved in the Lions Club Ostfriesland-Nord.

In 1956 he joined the German Armed Forces and initially served in the LAW acceptance organization in Defense Area III in Düsseldorf. He later became a teaching officer at the Fla school in Rendsburg. From 1957 to 1960 he completed the Fla training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Then he was battery chief at the rocket battalion 21 in Gelsenkirchen and Unna. In 1962 he became an S 3 staff officer at Fla-Schullehrstab 3 in Aachen.

From 1962 to 1965 he completed the 7th general staff course (L) at the Higher Technical School of the Air Force in Neubiberg and the Management Academy of the Federal Armed Forces (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In 1965 he became a consultant at the headquarters of the armed forces (Fü S) in Bonn. From 1967 to 1970 he was A 3 in the 4th  Air Force Division in Aurich. In 1969/70 he graduated from the 35th  NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome. He then was an Operations Staff Officer at the International Military Staff (IMS) in Brussels.

1972/73 he was commander of the anti-aircraft missile regiment 13 in Soest. In 1973 he became the commander of the Air Force Officer's School (OSLw) in Neubiberg and in 1975 of the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich. In 1976 he was Deputy Commanding General of the Air Force in Cologne. In the same year he was put into temporary retirement due to the Rudel affair .
