Edgar Pauly

Edgar Pauly (born January 9, 1880 in Verden , Lower Saxony ; † November 3, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German actor and game director.

Life

Edgar Pauly was a railway employee between 1897 and 1905, then became an actor and made his debut in Giessen on October 1, 1905. In 1907 Pauly got his first engagement in Iserlohn . His next stage positions were in Gießen , Bielefeld , Lübeck , Chemnitz and in 1916/17 the front theater in Laon, France .

In 1918 he appeared at the City Theater of Riga , in 1919 he came to the Metropoltheater in Berlin. Here Fritz Lang discovered him and gave him some roles in his films. In later years his screen presence was mostly limited to short appearances. As a stage actor, he worked at the Volkstheater Lichtburg, the Komödie, the Komödienhaus and the fairy tale theater of the Nazi organization Kraft durch Freude . After the end of the war he reduced his film and stage activities. He was married to the actress Anneliese Würtz (1900-1981). He died of a heart attack in 1951 after a premiere in his dressing room.
