Edith Brown Weiss

Edith Brown Weiss (born  February 19, 1942 in Salem , Oregon ) is an American lawyer and has been a professor at Georgetown University since 1978 . She is particularly concerned with international environmental and water law , and received the Manley O. Hudson Medal of the American Society for International Law for her work .

Life

Edith Brown Weiss was born in Salem, Oregon in 1942 and studied political science at Stanford University , from which she graduated with a BA in 1963 . They also acquired three years later at Harvard University a jurisprudential degree in Juris Doctor and 1973 Promotion at the University of California, Berkeley . From 1974 to 1978 she was a professor at Princeton University . She has been with Georgetown University since 1978 , where she holds the Francis Cabell Brown Chair in International Law.

In addition, Edith Brown Weiss worked from 1990 to 1992 as a consultant for international activities for the Environmental Protection Agency . From 1992 to 1994 she was President of the American Society for International Law . Since 2012 she has been a member of the Administrative Court of the International Monetary Fund . The focus of her work under international law is environmental and water law .

Edith Brown Weiss has been married since 1969 and is the mother of a son and a daughter.

Awards

Edith Brown Weiss received an ASIL Certificate of Merit from the American Society for International Law in 1990 for her work "In Fairness to Future Generations: International Law, Common Patrimony, and Intergenerational Equity" , which she also received in 2010 with the Manley-O. Hudson Medal was her highest honor. In addition, she was awarded the Elisabeth Haub Prize for Environmental Law from the Université libre de Bruxelles in 1994 and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Heidelberg and the Chicago-Kent College of Law .
